Susan Smith Nash has been named director of a newly created department of education services for the American Association of Petroleum Geologists (AAPG). Nash is a geologist and AAPG member with extensive experience in professional continuing education. She worked as a geologist and International Operations Analyst for Valley Exploration, Diamond Shamrock, Kerr-McGee and Victoria Resources before beginning a career in interdisciplinary studies, most recently at the University of Oklahoma.

John W. Dalton, Sr., Executive VP of Mustang, part of John Wood Group PLC, has been elected the 2009 Chairman of the Executive Committee for the Construction Industry Institute (CII).  CII is a consortium of owners, contractors, suppliers and academics from both the public and private arenas who have joined together to create industry best practices.

Oilsands Quest Inc. has appointed Garth Wong as CFO. Wong replaces Karim Hirji, who will continue to serve the company as a consultant. Most recently, Wong was a Principal and VP of Sokol Developments Inc.

Flowserve Corp. announced that Lars E. Rosene has been named Chief Sustainability Officer. He has more than 13 years of internal and external communications, media and government relations experience. Before coming to Flowserve four years ago, he served as VP and Director of Communications and Public Affairs  with Citigroup.

Best Energy Services announced that Tony Bruce has executed a one-year contract to serve as President and COO. Previously, he served as the company’s interim President and COO. Bruce founded Best Well in 1991, and that company became part of Best Energy in 2008.

Sensornet appointed John Dick as VP of Europe, Former Soviet Union and Africa (EFA). He worked for oil services company Baker Hughes for 13 years, and has experience working in the Middle East, US and Asia-Pacific.

Swellable elastomer specialist Swellfix has appointed Malcolm Pitman as VP of the company’s operations in Europe and Russia. Pitman held a number of management positions in the oil and gas industry for companies such as Shell and Baker Oil Tools, and he created the world’s first underbalanced casing exit system for BP Sharjah.

ECCO Energy has named Ray Ward as COO. With over 30 years of engineering and management experience, he has overseen more than 5,000 wells and participated in the discovery or development of more than 500 fields. Ward worked for Mobil Oil Corp. for 18 years, and is co-founder and Managing Partner of Republic Petroleum LLC.

Rod Starr has been named General Manager, Asia Pacific, for TGS-Nopec Geophysical Co. He was previously Senior VP, Geologic Products & Services, for TGS. Tanya Johnstone has been promoted to Regional Manager, Indonesia & Australasia. She has been part of the TGS Asia-Pacific team since 2002. Also, TGS has named Iain Buchan as Regional Manager, South & Southeast Asia. Buchan has 25 years of experience with projects in the Asia-Pacific region.

Energy services company Production Services Network (PSN) has named Mindy Burke as Manager of Human Resources. Burke was previously VP of Human Resources for Telwares. Also, John Gibson was named Business Manager. Previously, he worked in KBR’s London office as Commission Manager of the Shell GTL project in Qatar.

Knight Oil Tools named Robert C. Veazey as its new CFO. He joins Knight after the sale of Veazey and Company, a firm of CPAs and business consultants that he founded.

Spectra Energy Corp. has appointed Reginald Hedgebeth as its General Counsel. He was previously Senior VP, General Counsel and Secretary with Circuit City Stores Inc., since 2005.

The International Association of Drilling Contractors (IADC) and NOV ReedHycalog named Larry Dickerson the 2009 Contractor of the Year. Dickerson is President and CEO of Diamond Offshore Drilling Inc. He was the 2007 Chairman of the National Ocean Industries Association and 2003 Chairman of IADC.

InterMoor do Brasil Ltda., an Acteon company, named Osvaldo Lorca as Project Director in its Rio de Janeiro office. Lorca has worked for InterMoor for two years as a Senior Engineer, serving as Project Engineer and Project Manager for Shell BC-10 and Repsol BM-S-48.

United States Steel Corp. announced that Douglas R. Matthews has been appointed VP–Tubular Operations and President of the company’s US Steel Tubular Products Inc. subsidiary. Matthews succeeds Joseph Alvarado, who has retired. Matthews has been with the corporation since 1988. Most recently he was President and General Manager of US Steel Canada.

BJ Services announced the appointment of John Sullivan as Technical Manager, Chemical Cleaning–Process and Pipeline Services, for the northern and western US. Sullivan has more than 35 years of experience in process and pipeline services.
