IHS Inc. has acquired Global Insight Inc. for $118 million in cash and 1.3 million shares of IHS common stock, valued at about $47 million. The company was subsequently renamed IHS Global Insight. Global Insight has estimated 2008 revenues of $120 million. The firm provides comprehensive economic, financial and political coverage of more than 200 countries and regions, spanning 170 industries. IHS Global Insight has approximately 700 employees and 25 offices in 14 countries covering North and South America, Europe, Africa, the Middle East and Asia.

E&P enterprise software provider Paradigm announced the opening of its new training facility in Aberdeen, Scotland. The full-time facility offers high-performance workstations running Linux and Windows operating systems, complete with twin, 24-in. flat-screen monitors, which utilize the company’s multi-canvas workflow-based software. Computational equipment is complemented by dual overhead projection and Interactive White Board (IWB) technology.

NOV Elmar, a designer and manufacturer of wellhead pressure control equipment, has opened a new facility in Dubai, expanding its premises in the region to almost 40,000 sq ft and increasing the number of staff to more than 50. The facility, located in the Oilfield Supply Center in Jebel Ali, allows the firm to manufacture wireline units and trucks onsite in Dubai as well as expand its original wireline and coiled tubing operations. As part of the expansion, NOV Elmar Middle East has launched a Service and Repair Center, which will allow the firm to carry out annual and major service work on coiled tubing equipment. NOV Elmar, a product group of National Oilwell Varco, has offices and manufacturing facilities in Aberdeen, Singapore, Houston, Edmonton, Minsk and Perth.

Caledus, the Aberdeen-based well construction technology business, announced the establishment of an office and manufacturing base in Dubai. The operations, manufacturing, distribution, service and repair base and sales center for the Middle East was built in the Jebel Ali Free Zone, Dubai. In line with its expansion into the Middle East market and its focus on the UAE, Oman, Qatar and Saudi Arabia in particular, the company has agreed to strategic alliances with the service companies Shoaibi Group in Saudi Arabia and Al Mazroui Trading and General Services in Abu Dhabi.

Petris has announced a strategic partnership with Warrior Technology Services, Inc. In this agreement, Petris will be an OEM reseller of Warrior’s risk-management software UnRiskIT. The agreement allows Petris to embed Warrior’s software into its own solutions as well as selling it on a standalone basis. Petris plans to integrate UnRiskIT with its offerings for the drilling market, which include advanced data management (PetrisWINDS Enterprise with RECALL) and integration, project engineering tools (DrillNET) and its planned release of PetrisWINDS Operations Center. The software integration will enhance customers’ ability to identify and rank the biggest risk factors in the planning stage.

Cameron has acquired Guiberson Well Service System from Weatherford International Ltd. Guiberson provides well service equipment such as casing and tubing swabs and replacement swab cups, casing- and tubing-overload relief valves, wireline oil savers and tubing strippers, tubing spiders, rod BOPs and wingnut unions. Cameron will sell Guiberson products through its Drilling & Production Systems Group, which manufactures a range of oilfield elastomer products for drilling and production applications as well as a line of products and services for artificial lift. Guiberson was previously an operating unit under Weatherford’s Artificial Lift Systems Group.

Beginning in Spring 2009, deepwater oil and gas industry companies operating out of Port Fourchon, La., will have the option to store and service their equipment at the Deep Water Storage & Service: Fourchon. The facility will provide unlimited yard space for heavy-duty machinery and parts, protect storage sections for sensitive instruments and include a climate-controlled area. Clients will have access to a 50-ton crane, fork lifts, wash-down and inspection areas, an industrial paint booth and loading docks. It will be open 24 hours a day, seven days a week, with a facility manager on duty.

AlMansoori Specialized Engineering (MSE) announced the launch of AlMansoori Petroleum Industries, a holding company that will be exclusively focused on promoting opportunities for manufacturing a range of products for the oil and gas industry from a new base in Abu Dhabi. The company will form an umbrella business for joint ventures, licensing agreements, the acquisition of technical knowledge and creating new venture initiatives.

Honeywell announced a definitive agreement to acquire Callidus Technologies, a manufacturer of custom-designed and -fabricated industrial combustion products, including refinery burners and controls, flares and thermal oxidizers. Based in Tulsa, Okla., Callidus designs, supplies and commissions environmental and combustion equipment and services for the oil, gas and petrochemicals industries.

Mustang Engineering, part of John Wood Group PLC, will perform front-end engineering design for the topsides facilities on Hess Corp.’s Pony deepwater development. Pony Field is in the Green Canyon area of the deepwater Gulf of Mexico, offshore Louisiana in about 3,500 ft of water. The development plan includes subsea wells tied back to a floating processing facility. Mustang has been working with Hess over the past year, studying various field development configurations to develop the reservoir.

AMEC, the international engineering and project management company, and the marine heavy lifting company SeaMetric International AS, have signed a cooperation agreement to provide a new international offshore decommissioning service. Lifting objects such as offshore platforms, weighing up to 30,000 tons, in a safe and cost-effective manner is a vital part of the decommissioning process. The two companies will cooperate to support each other on existing and new projects; AMEC will provide project management and technical support to SeaMetric’s Twin Marine Lifter projects in Asia and Latin America.
