Enrique Pourteau was appointed strategic planning VP for Argentina’s YPF. Julio Tellechea was appointed engineering and technology VP.

Dresser-Rand named Vince Volpe as COO. The newly-restructured organization includes five business regions and two service organizations for focused global coverage. New executive VPs are: Tom Gamble, North America; Brad Dickson, Latin America, Phil Hoffman, Europe; Ibrahim K. Maalouf, Mid-East-Eurasia-North Africa region; Bruce Anderson, Asia-Pacific; Sammy Antoun, Compression Services and Walt Nye, Product Services, Dennis D. Weimer, marketing.

Toby Higginbotham will manage the sales and operations of Stewart Tubular Products, Inc.’s new office and warehouse facility in Lafayette, Louisiana.

Robert B. Catell, president and CEO of KeySpan Energy was re-elected to a one-year term as chairman of Gas Research Institute. Stanley C. Horton was re-elected vice-chairman. William M. Burnett was promoted to executive VP. Raymond G. Giese was named marketing and sales VP. Terry Keane was named VP and general manager of GRI’s E&P business unit in Chicago. Correction from April 1999: Robert Stayton was named manager of customer partnerships for the E&P unit.

R. Glenn Dawson joined PanAtlas as VP, exploration.

David Standefer joined Bettis Corp. as U.S. sales manager.

International guests at the June meeting of NOMADS are Mark Brooks, Hydril (UK) and Abderrazak Benyahia, Vallourec-Mannesmann (France).

Leo A. Schrider, senior VP for Belden & Blake Corp. was elected chairman of the board of the Petroleum Technology Transfer Council.

The Society for Mining, Metallurgy and Exploration Inc. elected James W. Boyd president for 1999.

Brent Cain joined Geodynamic Solutions as GIS consultant.

Vision 2000 Exploration Ltd. appointed Brian Parsons as exploration VP.

Graham Field will be responsible for setting up and running LICENERGY’s new office in Perth, Western Australia. Harry Littrell was appointed executive VP of operations, responsible for North and South American projects. Jerry Roberts joined as applications manager, responsible for establishing and marketing external training programs.

Inmarsat elected Richard Vos chairman and George Rorris vice chairman.

John E. Squarek became the vice chairman of the board of First Star Energy. Chairman James A. Malcolm assumed the title of president, and Robyn Lore joined as COO.

Global Decisions Group L.L.C. appointed Steven S. Fadem as president and CEO.

Barry W. Acomb and S. Clay Robinson, Jr., were promoted to offshore division manager and international division manager VPs, respectively, for Pogo Producing Co.

Coastal Oil & Gas elected Gregory W. Hutson senior VP and John T. Elzner VP, onshore land. Jon Nelson was appointed director of land, business development.

The Petroleum Museum inducted Cyril "Cy" Wagner, and Jack E. Brown of Wagner & Brown, Ltd., Midland; the late J. Clarence Karcher of Dallas, inventor of the reflection seismograph; and the late William A. "Monty" Montcrief, and son William A. "Tex" Moncrief, Jr., into its Hall of Fame on April 8.

Volker Hirsinger became managing director of all Petrosys business units worldwide, replacing Wence Sulda, who is stepping down to pursue personal interests.

Spectrum Energy and Information Technology Ltd. appointed Doug Penrose to the seismic processing sales team.

Andy Fuller joined Western Well Tool as product engineer. Mark Verret joined the sales team for the New Orleans and Venice areas.

John Hughes became director of the Oil Companies International Marine Forum.

Dale Bowering was named as president of the newly-created Veritas Exploration Services.

Frederik E. Dekker joined Wessex International as negotiations and farm-out business VP.

John A. (Andy) O’Donnell was appointed to business process development VP for Baker Hughes, Inc.

DEATHS

John G. (Jack) Ryan died on April 18 at age 46. Ryan earned a bachelor of arts degree from Yale University in 1975 and his juris doctor degree in 1980 from Boston University, where he was an editor for the Law Review. From 1980 to 1982, Ryan practiced law with the New York firm of Brown, Wood, Ivey, Mitchell and Petty. He joined Global Marine in 1982 as assistant general counsel and in 1985 was named senior VP, general counsel and secretary. In 1993, Ryan was appointed CEO of Global Marine Drilling, becoming president of Global Marine Drilling and COO of Global Marine Inc. in May 1997.

Corwin Denney died of complications of pneumonia after a long illness on April 1, 1999, in Palm Springs, California, at the age of 77. He was a former chairman of the board and president of Venus Oil Co., and life member of the University of Southern California board of trustees. WO
