Seneca, Evolution sign three-year e-frac agreement in Appalachia
(WO) — Seneca Resources and Evolution Well Services have entered into a three-year strategic agreement to deploy electric fracturing technology across Seneca's operations in the Appalachian basin.
The partnership will combine Evolution's electric fracturing fleet, field gas conditioning services and power generation capabilities with Seneca's natural gas production and gathering infrastructure. The companies said the collaboration is intended to improve completion efficiency while reducing the environmental footprint of hydraulic fracturing operations.
Under the agreement, Evolution will utilize field gas produced by Seneca to help power electric frac operations, reducing diesel consumption, fuel transportation requirements and associated emissions during well completions.
Seneca President Justin Loweth said the initiative aligns with the company's focus on operational efficiency and disciplined capital allocation.
"By leveraging our responsibly produced and gathered field gas to power electric fracturing operations, we can reduce fuel and logistics costs, improve reliability and uptime, and lower overall cost of ownership," Loweth said.
Electric fracturing technology has gained traction across U.S. shale basins in recent years as operators seek to lower fuel costs, reduce emissions and improve operational performance. Unlike conventional diesel-powered frac fleets, electric systems can utilize natural gas produced at the wellsite to generate power for pumping operations.
Evolution said the partnership will also leverage real-time operational data and engineered completion solutions to support high-intensity fracturing programs throughout Seneca's Appalachian acreage position.
"This alignment exemplifies how innovation and disciplined execution can work together to advance natural gas development," said Steven Anderson, president and CEO of Evolution Well Services.
Seneca is the exploration and production segment of National Fuel Gas Company and is one of the largest natural gas producers in the Appalachian basin. Evolution Well Services specializes in electric hydraulic fracturing technology and natural gas-powered completion services.
The agreement reflects a broader trend among North American shale operators toward electrified completion technologies aimed at improving efficiency while lowering the cost and emissions associated with hydraulic fracturing operations.
