Cegal delivers critical IT asset transition project for Tenaz in Dutch North Sea
(WO) - Tenaz Energy has completed a large-scale IT and data transition project tied to its acquisition of offshore assets in the Dutch North Sea, enabling the company to assume full operational control of the portfolio and supporting continued production and infrastructure operations in the region.
The transition follows Tenaz’s 2024 purchase of a portfolio of offshore assets from NAM, a joint venture of Shell and ExxonMobil, which included 25 platforms, the WGT pipeline system and a major gas treatment facility in Den Helder handling roughly half of the Netherlands’ gas flows. The acquisition required the migration of approximately 1.6 petabytes of engineering and subsurface data and the transfer of complex legacy IT and operational technology systems to Tenaz’s infrastructure.
With limited internal IT resources, Tenaz engaged energy-focused technology firm Cegal to support the transition and establish a scalable digital operating environment. The project involved the integration of core software and data systems, deployment of secure hosting and cybersecurity solutions, and onboarding of operational personnel, all under a tight deadline to ensure uninterrupted operations.
According to the companies, the transition included the design and implementation of a new digital infrastructure to support offshore production, pipeline operations and subsurface workflows. The scope also covered migration of geoscience and engineering datasets, deployment of cloud-based platforms for energy applications and the establishment of operational support systems to maintain continuity across offshore and onshore facilities.
The transition was completed ahead of a May 2025 operational handover deadline, allowing Tenaz to maintain uninterrupted management of its North Sea assets. Company officials said the digital foundation is intended to support future asset growth and enable scalable operations as Tenaz expands its international portfolio.
Tenaz became one of the largest operators in the Dutch North Sea following the acquisition and has since focused on integrating the acquired infrastructure into its broader upstream and gas operations strategy.
