The digital future is a theme flowing through OTC. Every booth is onboard, and every service company and operator feels the energy and wants to learn how the next, latest and greatest technology can save time and money. FutureON is no different and looks to catch these companies early in the decision-making process.

During Day 1 (Monday) at OTC 2019 in Houston, I sat down with FutureOn’s team: Pl Roppen, chairman of the board, Darrell Knight, executive V.P., global accounts and Michael O’Sullivan, president, Americas. Fresh off winning a 2019 OTC Spotlight on New Technology Award for their FieldAP – a FieldTwin platform application, this enthusiastic group of thought leaders shared their vision of the company, thoughts on new technology and hopes for the oil and gas industry.

Technology

FutureOn’s FieldAP, is the first cloud-based data visualization application for subsea field development. The video game-like environment focuses on offshore, emerging, short-term opportunities and has been tested by Equinor, McDermott and Subsea 7, among others. This technology “is for the big players to really maximize [their projects] because a lot of the offshore projects today are very complicated,” said Knight. “It’s a proven software.” This application is targeted toward the early stages for best effectiveness.

How it works. FieldAP securely drives workflow transparency and real-time collaboration between all relevant stakeholders. The application brings together field engineers and project managers, as they outline their current status and determine their next course of action, subsea, in 2D and 3D visualizations. The data modeling and engineering simulations have been created by gaming engineers to make it sophisticated, yet easy to use.

Winning. The Spotlight on New Technology Awards is a program for OTC exhibitors that showcases the latest and most advanced hardware and software technologies that are leading the industry into the future. The winners have to meet the following criteria to win: new, innovative, proven, broad interest and significant impact. FutureOn received this validation for its FieldAP – a FieldTwin platform application.

“Being a Spotlight on new Technolgoy Award winner is a coveted industry honor,” said Roppen. “This award further validates FieldAP, our sector-savvy data visualization application which helps our customer significantly reduce the time to first oil.”

Growth. FutureOn has been in business for three years and is headquartered in Oslo. Today, there is an office in Houston and 11 employees. The company has plans to add an office in London by the end of this year and establish a presence in the Middle East.
