WFS Technologies tackles subsea challenges with SIoT

EDINBURGH -- Technology to enhance operational effectiveness, while reducing risk and preventing interruption to pipeline production has been developed by Subsea Internet of Things (SIoT) specialists, WFS Technologies.

The patented Seatooth PipeLogger is an integrated pipeline, umbilical, risers and flowlines temperature monitoring and data transfer solution that can provide real-time monitoring for offshore and subsea assets. It has been previously used to reduce the risk and operational costs associated with coiled tube fatigue, producing savings of over £1 million in one installation alone.

More widely, this technology can provide an innovative solution to challenges facing the wider industry, as it works to ensure the integrity of an asset’s lifecycle and reduce its cost of ownership.

This is particularly crucial for those operating in a largely maturing industry that suffers from a lack of connectivity and sensors in extreme conditions.

WFS Technologies was last year ranked as one of the 10 most promising companies at the Rice Alliance Roundup at the Ocean Technology Conference (OTC) in Houston. The companies were chosen by industry experts and investors because they demonstrated the diversity of innovation, talent, investment, potential and success in the energy and clean tech industry.

The business, expanding due to demand for its products and services, will be showcasing its next generation suite of wireless subsea technology, including the Seatooth Pipelogger, Seatooth Video and the Seatooth WiPS integrated pressure monitoring system, at OTC in Houston as part of the Scottish Pavilion. Demonstrations of each system, showing wireless data transmission from a water tank to the desktop, will be ongoing all week, while the company will also have a scale model of its latest innovative fatigue monitoring SmartClamp.

WFS Technologies Chief Marketing Officer Theo Priestley, will also provide the keynote address at Digital Energy 2019 and at EMP Oilfield Connectivity conferences in May.

With around 350 patents applied for, WFS’s innovations are performing a crucial role towards helping clients to improve cost effectiveness and operational efficiencies by producing highly-sophisticated data which generate high-level intelligence and, in turn, allows more informed decisions.
