ONS: WorleyParsons launches Project Constructor app

STAVANGER -- In yet another example of how efficiency and cost containment rule the day, Australian firm WorleyParsons has launched a new app at ONS that generates detailed project execution plan scenarios in 3D. Called Offshore Constructor, the app can, for example, literally design every phase and component of an offshore structure.

Perhaps the most notable advantage for this app is that it cuts down the manpower and time needed to rough out structure designs. It accesses resident data, to add each component desired while scheduling the cost and timing. What used to take a number of days now takes just a few hours.

To be more specific, Offshore Constructor has four main design workflows that are accomplished. First, there is the defining of projects. This includes the scope of work, along with project dates, locations and elements (lines, risers, jumpers, structures). The app also selects project resources (vessels, yards, offices, etc.).

The second workflow is the generating of concepts. This includes importing from AutoCad, placing well locations manually or importing from Excel, and executing different connection system options. If necessary, one can manually fine-tune layouts. The program also executes design engineering scripts (wall thickness, buckling, sizing of structures, etc.).

In the third workflow, there is the generating of scenarios. The app will fine-tune the scope of work to generated elements. It also will assign resource locations, if different than defaults. In this phase, the app fine-tunes resources programming (task generations and duration formulas), and then generates final tasks.

In the final workflow, generating costs, the app selects a cost database and then calculates final costs. Needless to say, WorleyParsons will be implementing use of this app on several of its current and upcoming projects with various operators.
