Enverus Intelligence Research warns that Illinois’ ban on CO₂ sequestration beneath the Mahomet Aquifer has halted 5.6 MMtpa of carbon storage projects and could set a precedent nationwide, putting 20% of U.S. carbon capture capacity at risk.

Carbon capture, utilization, and storage (CCUS) projects depend on one uncompromising factor: integrity. Unlike oil and gas wells designed for decades, CCUS wells must remain sealed and secure for up to 75 years or more. With lessons from both subsurface design and surface execution, the session will highlight how to adapt proven oil and gas technologies to meet CCUS requirements while aligning with regulatory compliance, cost efficiency, and longevity.

Tracerco has introduced its chemical tracer technology into a U.S. carbon capture and storage project for the first time. Adapted from enhanced oil recovery applications, the tracers provide ultra-sensitive leak detection, track plume migration, and verify CO₂ containment.

ABS has granted approval in principle (AIP) to SBM Offshore for its pioneering Blue Ammonia floating production storage and offloading (FPSO) concept, advancing offshore gas conversion and decarbonized fuel production.
