Eni awards SLB OneSubsea major umbilical contract for Kutei North Hub

July 09, 2026

(WO) — SLB's OneSubsea joint venture has secured a contract from Eni North Ganal Limited to supply a steel tube umbilical system for the Kutei North Hub deepwater development offshore East Kalimantan, Indonesia.

The contract covers the engineering, procurement and manufacture of 94.6 km (58.8 mi) of steel tube umbilical designed for water depths of up to 2,200 m (7,218 ft). With a total system weight of approximately 6,700 tonnes, SLB said the project represents one of the largest umbilical contracts awarded in the offshore industry to date.

Eni North Ganal is a subsidiary of Searah Limited, a joint venture between Eni and PETRONAS.

The umbilical system is designed for a 10,000-psi operating pressure and includes the manufacture of a single continuous 30-km (18.6-mi) umbilical weighing approximately 2,100 tonnes, requiring specialized large-capacity carousel infrastructure for production and storage.

SLB OneSubsea will manufacture the system using a combination of its Oscilay™ and planetary production lines, allowing parallel manufacturing activities intended to improve production efficiency and shorten delivery schedules compared with conventional single-line manufacturing methods.

"Operators are looking for partners who can help them move projects forward with confidence," said Mads Hjelmeland, chief executive officer of SLB OneSubsea. "This award demonstrates how we combine technical expertise with innovative manufacturing capabilities to support efficient project execution and accelerated delivery while maintaining the reliability and performance required for demanding deepwater developments."

The Kutei North Hub project is among the largest deepwater developments currently progressing in Southeast Asia and expands SLB OneSubsea's portfolio of subsea production infrastructure projects supporting offshore developments in the region.
