UK opens public consultation on Adura's Jackdaw gas field
(WO) — The UK Offshore Petroleum Regulator for Environment and Decommissioning (OPRED) has opened a public consultation on Adura's Jackdaw gas field, marking another step in the regulatory approval process before the North Sea project can begin production.
The consultation opened this week and will run through Aug. 10, 2026, allowing stakeholders to provide input as part of the environmental review required for the project.
Jackdaw is one of two major North Sea developments being advanced by Adura, alongside the Rosebank field west of Shetland. The company said the two projects have attracted more than £3 billion in investment to date and are expected to play an important role in future UK oil and gas supply.
The Jackdaw production platform has already been installed and is in the final stages of preparation for startup. Production from the field will be tied back to the existing Shearwater Hub, with natural gas transported onshore to the St Fergus gas terminal in northeast Scotland.
Adura said Jackdaw is expected to become a significant contributor to domestic natural gas production, while Rosebank continues to advance toward development. The Petrojarl Rosebank floating production, storage and offloading (FPSO) vessel recently arrived at the field location west of Shetland as preparations continue.
"We welcome the opening of public consultation on Jackdaw," said Neil McCulloch, chief executive officer of Adura. "Jackdaw is ready to make a major contribution to Britain's energy needs, and alongside Rosebank represents a significant long-term investment in the UK's offshore energy sector."
The consultation follows continued regulatory review of both projects, which remain among the UK's largest undeveloped offshore oil and gas developments.
