June 04, 2026

(WO) — The Energy NL Conference & Exhibition concluded Thursday after three days of discussions focused on offshore development, energy security, regulatory certainty and Newfoundland and Labrador's growing role in global energy markets.

The conference's final day featured remarks from Lloyd Parrott, Newfoundland and Labrador's Minister of Energy and Mines, who highlighted the province's energy resources, workforce and opportunities to supply energy to international markets.

Attendees also received updates on offshore activity from Kirk Goobie, Vice President East Coast at Suncor Energy, and capital project plans from Gail Randell, Vice President of Major Projects at Newfoundland and Labrador Hydro.

Conference sessions brought together representatives from the offshore oil and gas, renewable energy, hydrogen and energy service sectors to discuss project development, investment opportunities and the future of the province's energy industry.

“Over the past three days we have heard thoughtful discussions on the important issues facing our industry, including local content, global energy demand and energy security, regulatory certainty, Indigenous involvement, project development, emissions reduction, and the evolving role of Newfoundland and Labrador in supplying responsibly produced energy to the world,” said Charlene Johnson, Chief Executive Officer of Energy NL.

Johnson added that the discussions reinforced the province's position within the evolving global energy landscape.

“What remains clear is that Newfoundland and Labrador is exceptionally well positioned to be a global leader in lower-carbon energy supply,” she said.

The conference concluded with a keynote address from Elizabeth Wademan, President and Chief Executive Officer of the Canada Development Investment Corporation (CDEV), which manages the Government of Canada's 8.5% ownership interest in the Hibernia project. Wademan discussed Canada's long-term energy competitiveness and Newfoundland and Labrador's role in future energy development.

“The Energy NL Conference & Exhibition 2026 was an incredible success,” said Richard Mandeville, Conference Chair, who credited attendees, speakers and industry participants for helping shape discussions on the opportunities and challenges facing the sector.

The annual conference brought together industry leaders, operators, regulators and service companies to examine the future of energy development in Atlantic Canada and the province's role in meeting growing global energy demand.
