VAALCO's Ebouri-5H well flows above 8,000 bopd offshore Gabon
(WO) — VAALCO Energy has reported strong initial results from its ongoing offshore Gabon drilling campaign, including production exceeding 8,000 bopd from the Ebouri-5H development well, while also providing an update on drilling activities in Egypt.
The Ebouri-5H well has been successfully drilled, completed and placed on production in the Ebouri field offshore Gabon. The well encountered approximately 300 m of net pay in Gamba sands and achieved an initial flow rate of more than 8,000 gross bopd, or approximately 4,700 bopd net to VAALCO, with low water cut.
Following completion of the well, the drilling rig has moved to the SEENT platform, where the company plans to drill the ETBNM-3 development well. The directional well will target gas and condensate resources in the Dentale D15 reservoir near the GMF-1X discovery on the North Tchibala structure.
VAALCO said natural gas from a successful ETBNM-3 well could be used to support field operations, reducing reliance on diesel currently transported to the offshore facilities.
In Egypt, the company has drilled, completed and brought online the HE-9 development well, the first well in its 2026 drilling campaign. The well encountered 26 m of net pay in the Asl B reservoir and achieved an initial production rate of 529 gross bopd, exceeding pre-drill expectations.
The company said drilling activity in Egypt is continuing following the success of its 2025 campaign, while operations in Gabon remain focused on adding production and reserves through the ongoing development program.
VAALCO recently restarted production at the Baobab field and reported record company production of 15,283 boed in May, up 41% year-to-date despite natural declines from legacy fields. The company continues to target an exit production rate of 18,000 to 20,000 boed by the end of 2026.
