ADNOC deploys heavy-duty inspection robot at UAE gas plant

May 21, 2026

(WO) — ADNOC has deployed an autonomous heavy-duty inspection robot at its Taweelah Gas Compression Plant in the UAE as part of a broader push to expand artificial intelligence, robotics and automated safety systems across operations.

Developed by Taurob, the robot is designed to conduct inspections in hazardous industrial environments while reducing personnel exposure to operational risks.

According to ADNOC, the system is equipped with 3D LiDAR technology, thermal imaging cameras and 360-degree visibility capabilities that allow operators to identify potential gas leaks, abnormal heat signatures and other operational hazards during routine inspections.

ADNOC also announced plans to co-develop a next-generation heavy-duty “operator” robot capable of lifting equipment, operating valves and performing maintenance-related tasks in high-risk industrial environments.

The robot is being developed through the ARGOS Joint Industry Project alongside Equinor, Petrobras, TotalEnergies, Saft and Taurob.

According to ADNOC, the new system is expected to operate in temperatures ranging from -20°C to 60°C and will be capable of both remote-controlled and autonomous operations. The company said deployment is targeted before the end of 2026.

“Artificial and Physical Intelligence are core to ADNOC’s long-term energy strategy, transforming how we operate across the value chain,” said Dena Almansoori, ADNOC’s group chief technology and innovation officer.

The company said the deployment supports broader efforts to integrate AI-enabled monitoring, robotics and autonomous systems into health, safety and operational workflows across land and offshore assets.

ADNOC added that AI-driven systems such as HSE Cockpit.ai have contributed to reductions in safety incidents while robots and drones continue supporting inspections, emissions monitoring and confined-space operations across its facilities.
