Poland advances Gulf of Gdańsk FSRU terminal with vessel launch

May 19, 2026

(WO) — GAZ-SYSTEM has launched the floating storage and regasification unit (FSRU) vessel planned for Poland’s first floating LNG terminal in the Gulf of Gdańsk, marking another milestone in the country’s broader natural gas infrastructure expansion program.

The vessel was launched at the HD Hyundai Heavy Industries shipyard in South Korea and is expected to arrive in Poland by the end of 2027. Regasification operations are scheduled to begin in first-quarter 2028.

Once operational, the terminal is expected to provide more than 6 Bcm/year of regasification capacity and strengthen Poland’s ability to diversify natural gas supply sources and expand regional gas distribution capabilities.

The FSRU vessel is approximately 295 m long and 46 m wide, with LNG storage capacity of 170,000 m3. LNG delivered by sea to the Gulf of Gdańsk will be regasified and transported into Poland’s national transmission system.

Polish officials described the project as a strategic component of the country’s long-term energy security plans and broader efforts to position Poland as a regional gas hub for Central and Eastern Europe.

Additional work continues on associated offshore and onshore infrastructure tied to the FSRU program, including construction of a microtunnel beneath the Gulf of Gdańsk coastline for the offshore gas pipeline connection and expansion of the Gdańsk-Gustorzyn pipeline network.

According to GAZ-SYSTEM, the project remains on schedule, with offshore, terminal and transmission infrastructure development progressing in parallel.
