Perenco restarts Davy gas field production in North Sea

(WO) — Perenco has restarted production from the Davy gas field in the Southern North Sea more than five years after the asset was shut in and previously considered for decommissioning.

The company said production from the Davy A3 and A5 wells resumed in late April following completion of a redevelopment and platform simplification program. Combined output from the two platforms is currently flowing to Perenco’s Bacton terminal at a stable rate of approximately 14 MMscf/d.

According to Perenco UK, the project included major upgrades to aging infrastructure originally designed in the 1970s, as well as simplification of platform systems intended to improve long-term operational reliability and reduce operating costs.

The redevelopment also included partial decommissioning work, with two platform wells and two subsea wells plugged and abandoned during the program.

Perenco said the facility now operates primarily using wind-generated power following installation of a wind turbine, reducing reliance on diesel-powered generation and lowering the platform’s operational carbon footprint.

“The restart of the Davy gas field after five years offline is an excellent result and showcases how assets consigned for decommissioning can be revived and continue to make a meaningful contribution to the UK’s energy mix,” said Jo White, Perenco UK SNS general manager.

White added that the field is expected to continue producing for several more years following the recent work program.

Perenco credited collaboration between its internal teams and offshore decommissioning specialist Petrodec for execution of the restart project.
