Petralon boosts Nigeria’s Dawes Island production to 4,800 bopd

May 12, 2026

(WO) — Petralon Energy has increased production at Nigeria’s Dawes Island field to approximately 4,800 bopd following startup of the DI-3 well, marking the company’s second consecutive producing well since achieving first oil at the asset in late 2025.

Production from the DI-3 well began March 14, 2026, and has added roughly 2,800 bopd to field output, according to the company. The well follows startup of the DI-2 well in October 2025 as part of Petralon’s phased redevelopment program for the field.

Dawes Island, located in the Eastern Niger Delta approximately 15 km from Port Harcourt, was non-producing when Petralon acquired a 100% working interest in the asset in 2021 through its subsidiary Petralon 54. The field covers about 46 km² and is estimated to contain 17.6 million bbl of recoverable oil.

The company said more than 350,000 bbl of oil have already been exported from the field through the Bonny Oil and Gas Terminal, located roughly 30 km away.

“Our success at Dawes Island was built on the conviction that Nigerians could acquire, develop, and operate world-class energy assets,” said Ahonsi Unuigbe, founder and CEO of Petralon Energy. “The easy thing after DI-2 would have been to pause, but the determination and resilience of every single member of the Petralon team drove us forward, and DI-3 is the result of that effort.”

Petralon said the DI-3 well was delivered with zero lost-time incidents and represents another step in the company’s longer-term development plans for the field and broader upstream growth strategy in Nigeria.
