Petrobras awards Subsea7 'supermajor' contract for Sépia 2 in Brazil's pre-salt
(WO) - Subsea7 has been awarded a major subsea contract by Petrobras for the Sépia 2 development in Brazil’s Santos basin, expanding its presence in the country’s pre-salt sector.
The scope includes engineering, procurement, fabrication, installation and pre-commissioning of subsea umbilicals, risers and flowlines (SURF) for 17 wells, including tie-ins to the existing Sépia 1 development. The project also includes installation of a gas export line and associated risers.
The Sépia 2 field is located approximately 280 km southeast of Rio de Janeiro in water depths of about 2,170 m. It is part of a broader pre-salt expansion program aimed at increasing production from Brazil’s offshore resources.
Subsea7 defines the award as a “supermajor” contract, indicating a value exceeding $1.25 billion.
Project management and engineering activities will begin immediately at the company’s offices in Rio de Janeiro, Paris and Sutton. Offshore installation is scheduled to begin later in the decade, with execution expected from 2029.
The award continues Subsea7’s involvement in Petrobras-led deepwater developments, where SURF systems play a key role in enabling production from complex subsea reservoirs. Brazil’s pre-salt fields remain a core focus for offshore investment, supported by large resource potential and ongoing development activity.
