ONE-Dyas boosts North Sea gas output to 1 Bcm/year with second N05-A well

April 08, 2026

(WO) - ONE-Dyas has started production from a second well at its N05-A platform in the North Sea, increasing total output at the site to approximately 1 billion cubic meters (Bcm) per year.

The new well marks a step up from roughly 700 million cubic meters annually produced from a single well and advances the project toward its full capacity of 2 Bcm/year. Peak production is expected by the fourth quarter, ahead of the winter heating season.

The N05-A development is part of the cross-border GEMS area, which spans Dutch and German waters near Borkum. Current output represents about 7% of natural gas demand in the Netherlands and approximately 2.5% in Germany, underscoring the project’s role in regional supply.

The wider GEMS area is estimated to hold up to 50 Bcm of recoverable gas across multiple smaller fields. Development of these resources aligns with the Netherlands’ small fields policy, which prioritizes domestic production to offset imports and support energy security.

“With the second well online, we are increasing supply from locally produced gas while maintaining low operational emissions,” said CEO Chris de Ruyter van Steveninck.

The platform is powered by electricity from Germany’s offshore Riffgat wind farm, enabling near-zero operational emissions. ONE-Dyas said both production and ongoing drilling activities at N05-A are fully electrified, a relatively uncommon approach for developments in this part of the North Sea.

The project also leverages existing offshore infrastructure and is designed to support continued gas production during the energy transition, as European markets seek to reduce reliance on imported supplies following disruptions to Russian gas flows.

Additional drilling is ongoing to further increase output and move the platform toward its nameplate capacity.
