Eni makes 2 Tcf gas discovery offshore Egypt with fast-track development potential
(WO) - Eni has made a significant gas and condensate discovery offshore Egypt, with preliminary estimates indicating approximately 2 Tcf of gas initially in place (GIIP) at the Denise W-1 exploration well in the Temsah concession.
The well is located about 70 km offshore in 95 m of water depth in the Eastern Mediterranean. The discovery encountered a high-quality sandstone reservoir with roughly 50 m of net pay, similar to the nearby Temsah field, which has been in production since 2001.
Proximity to existing infrastructure—less than 10 km from processing and export facilities—is expected to enable a fast-track development, reducing costs and accelerating time to market.
Eni said the discovery supports Egypt’s efforts to increase domestic gas production and strengthen energy security. It also aligns with the company’s strategy of targeting near-field and infrastructure-led exploration to unlock additional resources in mature areas.
The Denise W-1 well follows a 20-year renewal of the Temsah concession signed in 2025 with EGPC and EGAS. Eni holds a 50% operated interest in the Denise Development Lease, with bp holding the remaining 50%. Operations are conducted through Petrobel, the joint venture between Eni and EGPC.
