ABL completes multi-phase transport of Northern Endeavour FPSO to recycling yard

April 07, 2026

(WO) — ABL has completed marine assurance and warranty survey work supporting the transport of the Northern Endeavour FPSO from Australia to a recycling facility in Denmark, marking the final stage in the vessel’s lifecycle.

The scope included multiple phases, from riser and mooring disconnection and wet tow to Singapore, to drydock modification, float-on to a heavy transport vessel and subsequent shipment to Europe. Final operations included float-off, wet tow and mooring at the recycling yard in Frederikshavn.

ABL delivered services across the project for Petrofac during early phases and later for the Australian Department of Industry, Science and Resources, with teams across Australia, Singapore, China, the UK and Germany supporting planning and execution.

“This has been a long journey for the FPSO, including multiple complex inshore, nearshore and offshore operations,” said Alex Harrison, ABL’s global managing director for energy. “Every step has been executed safely and in line with pre-approved plans.”

The project highlights the growing complexity of FPSO decommissioning and the increasing role of coordinated marine assurance in large-scale offshore asset retirement.
