Nikkiso to supply pumps for Germany’s largest LNG import terminal
(WO) — Nikkiso Clean Energy & Industrial Gases has been awarded a contract to supply pumps for Germany’s largest land-based LNG import terminal, supporting the expansion of gas import infrastructure in Europe.
The company will deliver nearly 30 submerged motor pumps, including both high- and low-pressure units, for the Stade terminal project, which is being developed by Hanseatic Energy Hub and is expected to begin operations in 2029.
The facility will include two LNG storage tanks, each with a capacity of 240,000 cubic meters (about 8.5 MMcf equivalent storage), making it one of the largest LNG import terminals in Europe.
The initial phase will support LNG, BioLNG and synthetic natural gas, with plans to add ammonia handling capabilities in a later phase as part of broader energy transition efforts.
Nikkiso was contracted by engineering firm Técnicas Reunidas, with equipment delivery expected in 2026.
“Both Nikkiso CE&IG’s presence and our contribution to major energy transition projects in Europe continues to grow,” said Ole Skatka-Jensen, regional vice president for Europe, Middle East and Africa at Nikkiso CE&IG. “We have expertise in providing equipment and service support for LNG as well as hydrogen and ammonia, and we are proud to be part of such an important project for Germany and Europe’s move to these lower-carbon fuels.”
The project reflects continued investment in LNG import capacity across Europe as countries seek to diversify supply sources and strengthen energy security.
