Assala achieves first oil at Grand N’Gongui field onshore Gabon
(WO) - Assala Gabon has achieved first oil at the Grand N’Gongui (GNG) field, marking a key milestone in the development of onshore resources in Gabon.
The project transitions a long-evaluated asset into active production following a multi-year appraisal program completed in 2025. A phased development is now underway, supported by an approved 60-well drilling program designed to optimize recovery and manage subsurface uncertainty.
The GNG field targets reservoirs within the Gamba Formation, where an estimated 350 million barrels of stock tank oil initially in place (STOIIP) has been identified. Peak production is expected to exceed 10,000 bopd as development progresses.
The project was delivered within approximately 12 months from engineering through start-up, requiring parallel execution of design, procurement and construction activities under tight timelines. Development also involved complex logistics and the deployment of pipeline solutions adapted to lagoon environments.
The startup strengthens Assala’s position as a key operator in Gabon and supports continued efforts to sustain and expand the country’s oil production base. The company said it will continue working with national authorities and partners as it advances the phased rollout of the development plan.
