ReconAfrica begins production testing at Kavango West discovery in Namibia
(WO) - ReconAfrica has commenced production testing operations at its Kavango West 1X discovery well in Namibia, marking a key step in evaluating the commercial potential of the Kavango basin.
Testing operations are underway following receipt of regulatory approvals, with field crews preparing the well and associated equipment now in place. The company has contracted major service providers, including Halliburton and SLB, to support the testing program.
Updated petrophysical analysis indicates approximately 75 m of net hydrocarbon pay within the Huttenberg formation, an increase from earlier estimates. In total, ReconAfrica has identified 345 m of prospective interval across multiple zones for testing, including targets in both the Huttenberg and deeper Elandshoek formations.
The program will evaluate six optimized zones, with the objective of confirming flow rates, reservoir characteristics and overall development potential. Results from the testing campaign are expected to guide next steps, including potential appraisal and field development planning.
Separately, ReconAfrica is advancing its offshore Gabon portfolio, where it is reprocessing 3D seismic data across the Ngulu block. The work will support the selection of an appraisal well location at the Loba discovery and inform a third-party resource assessment expected by year-end.
The combined onshore and offshore activities highlight the company’s strategy to advance exploration and appraisal across multiple frontier basins, as it works to define commercial opportunities in both Namibia and Gabon.
