SBM Offshore wins FEED work for Exxon’s Longtail FPSO project offshore Guyana

March 24, 2026

(WO) - SBM Offshore has been awarded Front End Engineering and Design (FEED) contracts by ExxonMobil Guyana for a floating production, storage and offloading (FPSO) vessel to support the Longtail development, one of the next major projects in the country’s rapidly expanding deepwater portfolio.

The award initiates early-stage engineering and funding to advance the FPSO design, with SBM Offshore allocating one of its standardized Fast4Ward® hulls for the project. Progression to construction and installation will remain subject to government approvals and final investment decision.

The Longtail FPSO is expected to rank among the most gas-intensive developments in Guyana to date, with design capacity to process approximately 1.2 Bcfd of gas and produce up to 250,000 bbl/d of condensate. The unit will be deployed in water depths of about 1,750 m and feature storage capacity of roughly 2 MMbbl.

SBM Offshore is expected to operate the FPSO under its integrated operations and maintenance model, leveraging experience from multiple units already deployed offshore Guyana, including Liza Destiny, Liza Unity, Prosperity, ONE GUYANA and Jaguar.

“We are proud to receive this sixth FPSO award from ExxonMobil Guyana,” said CEO Øivind Tangen. “This project underscores the strength of our Fast4Ward approach and our experience in large-scale gas-processing systems.”

The company’s Fast4Ward program, which uses standardized hulls and modular topsides, is designed to reduce project timelines and improve execution efficiency across large-scale offshore developments.

The Longtail project highlights continued momentum in Guyana’s deepwater sector, where operators are advancing high-capacity FPSOs to support both oil and gas production growth.
