Elemental Energies acquires APT to expand subsurface and basin modeling capabilities
(WO) - Elemental Energies has acquired Applied Petroleum Technology AS (APT), strengthening its global subsurface, geochemistry and reservoir analysis capabilities as operators seek more integrated technical support across the full well lifecycle.
APT, a specialist geoscience and petroleum geochemistry firm, provides basin modeling, geochemical analysis and subsurface evaluation to support exploration, development, production and plug-and-abandonment (P&A) decisions. The company has an established track record supporting operators across a range of basin types and maturity levels.
The acquisition expands Elemental Energies’ subsurface offering by integrating APT’s laboratory-based geochemical expertise with its existing geoscience, reservoir engineering and petroleum engineering services. Company officials said the combined capabilities will enable operators to gain clearer insights into fluid connectivity, improve reservoir modeling accuracy and support more informed decision-making across exploration, production, carbon capture and storage (CCS), and late-life asset management.
Elemental Energies said demand for deeper subsurface insight is increasing as operators navigate more complex development environments, mature asset portfolios and decommissioning programs. The addition of APT’s capabilities, including digital tools for wellsite gas interpretation and P&A analysis, is expected to enhance integrated subsurface and wells workflows and support containment assurance and sustained annular pressure evaluation.
The transaction increases Elemental Energies’ global workforce by approximately 10%, bringing total staff to more than 300 employees across the U.K., Norway and North America. The acquisition also aligns with the company’s strategy to build integrated operator-level technical capabilities and expand its geographic footprint to support complex global upstream portfolios.
