Decom Engineering and Unique Group form subsea decommissioning partnership
Decom Engineering has signed a memorandum of understanding (MoU) with UAE-based Unique Group to jointly deliver integrated subsea decommissioning services across major offshore oil and gas regions, including the Middle East and Asia-Pacific.
Under the agreement, the two companies will combine Decom’s proprietary mechanical cutting and removal technologies with Unique Group’s subsea engineering, project management and offshore execution capabilities to provide a turnkey decommissioning offering for ageing subsea infrastructure.
Aberdeen-headquartered Decom is known for its field-proven Chopsaw cutting tools designed to reduce cost and improve safety during high-risk subsea removal operations. Unique Group, which operates from 18 locations globally, will provide subsea engineering expertise, offshore operational support and logistics to support complex decommissioning campaigns.
The MoU also gives Decom access to equipment storage at Unique Group’s global facilities, enabling faster mobilization and deployment of tools to client projects. The companies will additionally collaborate on engineering design, operational planning, training and knowledge transfer initiatives.
“Operators increasingly expect a single point of accountability for decommissioning scopes,” said Nick McNally, managing director of Decom Engineering. “This partnership allows us to jointly provide a full decommissioning workstream, from subsea cutting and recovery through to engineering support, planning and offshore execution.”
Ross Anderson, regional manager for decommissioning at Unique Group, said the collaboration aligns complementary capabilities at a time when operators face tightening budgets, ageing subsea assets and growing regulatory and emissions-related pressures.
“By combining our global subsea engineering and offshore execution expertise with Decom’s specialist cutting and removal technologies, we are positioned to deliver integrated, high-performance decommissioning solutions tailored to client requirements,” Anderson said.
The agreement reflects rising demand for more efficient, integrated decommissioning strategies as offshore operators seek to reduce costs, manage environmental obligations and safely retire legacy subsea infrastructure.
