TotalEnergies partners with BluEnergies on deepwater prospect offshore Liberia

January 15, 2026

TotalEnergies has entered a joint study and application agreement with BluEnergies to advance exploration of the Harper basin deepwater fan play offshore Liberia

Under the agreement, the partners will carry out an 18-month technical work program focused on seismic reprocessing and seabed data acquisition across the LB-26, LB-30 and LB-31 blocks. The program aims to refine prospect definition and de-risk potential drilling targets within the basin floor fan system.

The collaboration is supported by a new reconnaissance license covering approximately 8,900 km², in which TotalEnergies holds a 65% participating interest and BluEnergies 35%. Subject to the identification of drillable prospects, the companies intend to apply for one or more production sharing contracts.

BluEnergies previously identified multiple large Cretaceous-aged fan prospects in the Harper Basin based on 3D seismic interpretation. The basin lies along the West Africa Transform Margin, a geological trend that has seen successful deepwater discoveries elsewhere in the region.
