Forum Energy Technologies launches ICE Unity ROV control system for offshore operations

September 22, 2025

Forum Energy Technologies (FET) has introduced ICE Unity, its next-generation control system for remotely operated vehicles (ROVs), designed to improve efficiency and reliability in offshore operations.

The system features a standardized user interface across different classes of ROVs — from observation to heavy work class — minimizing operator training and simplifying deployment across fleets. ICE Unity also incorporates network connectivity that enables remote operations, predictive maintenance, and live survey data streaming.

FET said one of the key advantages is the ability to monitor performance remotely, allowing components to be replaced when needed rather than on fixed schedules. This approach reduces downtime, cuts costs, and supports safer offshore operations.

Continuous development will keep ICE Unity compatible with the latest subsea sensors and tooling. FET ROVs equipped with the new control system are used globally across offshore oil and gas, subsea construction, and renewable energy projects.

Kevin Taylor, FET’s Vice President Operations – Subsea, said the rollout marks “a step change in ROV control technology,” adding that ICE Unity provides “immense time and cost-saving benefits” while supporting more flexible offshore campaigns.
