Global Energy Show Canada kicks off with critical industry dialogue
The Global Energy Show Canada (GESC) is taking place in Calgary this week June 10 - 12, bringing together industry leaders to tackle energy security, climate responsibilities and global demand challenges.
Part of GESC, an executive conference will also gather industry leaders, government representatives and major global players for a national dialogue that is critical to developing practical frameworks, policy, actions and guidelines to shape “Canada’s Energy Mandate to 2030.”
"This year’s Global Energy Show Canada (GESC) marks a significant evolution, both in scale and substance and it promises to be the most transformative edition to date," said Nick Samain, Senior Vice President North America at dmg events, GESC's organizer. "There are important issues facing the Canadian energy sector, and the industry has responded with a historic number of pre-registrations for the show. The event space has been increased to accommodate the larger and highly engaged audience coming to Calgary."
"We’ve also expanded the international presence of the show, with strong representation from producing nations and energy leaders from around the world, including keynote speaker His Excellency Haitham Al Ghais, OPEC Secretary General," Samain continued.
The conversation within the energy sector has broadened, with a deeper emphasis on energy transition strategies, supply chain resilience and cross-sector collaboration. Samain noted a growing trend in seeing greater integration between traditional energy players and emerging technologies, reflecting the increasingly diversified path the industry is taking.
What's new at GESC 2025?
Several new elements have been introduced to enrich the attendee experience and deepen dialogue at this year's Global Energy Show. Among these is the launch of the Energy Influencers Conference, a new forum designed to bring together the next generation of energy leaders and seasoned professionals, fostering conversation between community and technical experts.
The Executive Conference has also been expanded to feature candid, solution-focused discussions among senior leaders and policymakers. Additionally, new focused sessions on critical minerals, hydrogen, AI in energy and Indigenous partnerships reflect the urgent themes shaping the global energy landscape.
A highlight this year will be the diverse range of speakers, including a keynote address from His Excellency Haitham Al Ghais, Secretary General of OPEC. "Al Ghais' participation marks a historic moment for the show," said Samain. "His participation underscores the global relevance and growing influence of this event."
More than 150 distinguished private sector energy leaders from Canada and around the world will take part in the conference, including: Hon. Rona Ambrose, Deputy Chairwoman, TD Securities; Stastia West, President & Country Chair and Vice President, Canada Integrated Gas, Shell Canada; Mark Maki, CEO, Trans Mountain and Mark Fitzgerald, President and CEO, PETRONAS Canada.
These voices will be joined by many other senior executives shaping the future of energy. There is also strong representation from government, Indigenous and policy leaders including: Premier of Alberta Danielle Smith; Hon. Brian Jean, Minister of Energy and Minerals, Government of Alberta; Hon. Colleen Young, Minister of Energy and Resources, Government of Saskatchewan; Crystal Smith, Chief, Haisla First Nation and Dr. Orlando Velandia Sepúlveda, President, National Hydrocarbons Agency of Colombia (ANH).
Their insights will help contextualize the realities of navigating the energy transition on a national and global level.
"GESC serves as a rare forum where all parts of the energy value chain converge. At a time when energy systems are being redefined globally, GESC offers a neutral, solutions-oriented space for the industry to exchange ideas, forge partnerships and align on what’s next," said Samain.
"Our location in Calgary, Canada’s energy capital, adds to the show’s significance. Taking place just ahead of the G7 summit, which will be held in nearby Kananaskis, GESC is ideally positioned to provide a platform that reflects both regional strengths and global challenges. Ultimately, GESC helps advance not just dialogue, but action."
