Neo Oiltools launches Neosmart to optimize drilling both onshore and offshore

May 21, 2025

Neo Oiltools, a creator of drilling performance tools for the oil and gas and geothermal industries, have introduced Neosmart to its lineup of drilling solutions. Neosmart's high-frequency sensors provide in-depth, high-resolution post-run diagnostics that help maximize drilling performance while minimizing downhole risk.

Neosmart employs high-frequency sensors that operate at an industry-first 1,000 Hz to deliver actual data-driven insights that empower drillers to adjust drilling parameters, bit design, and BHA configuration to optimize each subsequent run.

As an optional device embedded into Neotork, Neosmart monitors downhole vibrations in three dimensions and tracks the axial movements of Neotork throughout a run. Operating at a sampling frequency of 1,000 Hz, Neosmart captures detailed dynamic behaviors during drilling. The information is securely stored and then retrieved once the tool is back on the surface to offer a complete and precise reconstruction of the downhole environment.

“Neosmart is field-proven to enable targeted improvements in drilling programs by correlating tool behavior with formation response and BHA dynamics,” commented Robert Borne, CEO of Neo Oiltools. “As Neotork continuously manages drill bit depth of cut and mitigates all four types of vibrations operators can encounter downhole, the addition of Neosmart can provide powerful, data-driven insights that unlock greater drilling and cost efficiencies.”

The data Neosmart provides can guide adjustments in drilling parameters, bit design or bottomhole assembly (BHA) configuration for future runs, delivering more predictable and efficient drilling, Neo Oiltools stated. By improving the visibility of downhole dynamics and reducing uncertainty, Neosmart helps avoid costly failures and unnecessary trips.

Neo Oiltools also noted that drilling programs can be optimized based on actual operational feedback rather than assumptions, leading to better planning, lower nonproductive time and longer tool life. The accumulation of this rich data across wells and fields becomes a powerful asset over time, enabling performance benchmarking, root cause analysis, and the creation of data-driven drilling optimization strategies.
