Energy NL remembers loss of Flight 491, 16 years later

Today marks 16 years since Flight 491 crashed, resulting in the loss of 17 of the 18 people on board. Energy NL joins the community in remembering these individuals, and extends deepest condolences to the survivor, as well as the family and friends who lost a loved one on that tragic day.

“The lasting impact that Flight 491 has had on our province and industry cannot be overstated,” said Charlene Johnson, Energy NL CEO. “This tragedy fundamentally changed our safety practices and how we operate in the challenging environment of Newfoundland and Labrador’s offshore. On the sixteenth anniversary of Flight 491, let us remain dedicated to continued development in offshore safety and survival research and training to ensure such loss of life may never happen again. On behalf of Energy NL, I extend our sympathies to everyone impacted by this tragedy, particularly the family and friends who lost a loved one and the sole survivor.”

Energy NL asks everyone to remember those who lost their lives on that tragic day in 2009.
