Kongsberg Maritime wins LARS package for Sea1 Offshore construction vessels

December 04, 2025

(WO) - Kongsberg Maritime has secured a major equipment order from Sea1 Offshore to supply Launch and Recovery Systems (LARS) for the company’s four newbuild offshore construction vessels, strengthening the OEM’s footprint in the subsea support market.

Each vessel will be outfitted with two of Kongsberg Maritime’s advanced LARS units designed for work-class ROV deployment and retrieval in harsh offshore environments. The scope includes telescopic A-frames, fully electric umbilical winches, energy-efficient hydraulic power units and a dedicated control system. The systems deliver a 15-tonne safe working load and 4,500 m of winch cable capacity to support deepwater operations.

Kongsberg Maritime said the contract reinforces its position as a leading supplier of integrated handling solutions for subsea construction fleets. “This award demonstrates our renewed commitment to delivering world-class handling solutions for the offshore industry,” said Ingar Hovden, Sales Manager. “Our LARS technology combines proven engineering with modern efficiency features to help operators achieve safe and sustainable operations.”

Sea1 Offshore said the technology will provide improved performance for its expanding fleet. “We are confident these state-of-the-art WROV launch and recovery systems will give us market-leading operability in harsh-environment operations,” said Andreas Kjøl, CCO. The systems will be fully integrated with the vessels’ power-electric and energy-storage systems to enhance efficiency and minimize downtime.

The new LARS packages offer controlled deployment in demanding sea states, modular integration for different vessel designs, and lower energy consumption through frequency-controlled hydraulic units—supporting operators’ operational and environmental objectives.
