ReconAfrica sets 2026 milestones across Namibia, Angola and offshore Gabon

December 16, 2025

Reconnaissance Energy Africa Ltd. (ReconAfrica) reported year-end operational progress across its exploration portfolio in Namibia, Angola and offshore Gabon, highlighting preparation for a production test at its Kavango West 1X discovery in Namibia in early 2026.

In Namibia’s Damara Fold Belt, ReconAfrica is advancing toward a multi-zone production test at the Kavango West 1X well, following encouraging hydrocarbon indications from its second exploration well in the basin. The company plans to begin testing by the end of the first quarter of 2026, with operations expected to run four to eight weeks and potentially evaluate up to eight reservoir intervals. The test program is designed to provide extended flow periods and pressure-buildup data to support production rate estimates and resource evaluation.

Post-well analysis at Kavango West 1X identified multiple hydrocarbon-bearing intervals within the Otavi formation. The Upper Otavi Group was subdivided into the Huttenberg and Elandshoek formations, with logging and cuttings analysis confirming oil and gas shows, hydrocarbon fluorescence, and indications of fracturing. Drilling was halted at a total depth of 4,260 m due to rig limitations, with the company opting to proceed directly to production testing rather than a drill stem test.

Beyond Namibia, ReconAfrica continued to expand its regional footprint. In Angola, the company signed a memorandum of understanding with the National Agency for Petroleum, Gas and Biofuels (ANPG) to pursue early-stage exploration in the onshore Etosha-Okavango basin. Initial work will focus on geochemical sampling of surface oil and gas seeps, expected to begin in early 2026.

In offshore Gabon, ReconAfrica is progressing seismic data acquisition and reprocessing activities on the Ngulu block. Reprocessed 3D seismic interpretation is scheduled to begin in January 2026, with plans to deliver an independent resource assessment following completion of the study.

The company said the combined progress across its portfolio positions ReconAfrica for several technical and operational milestones in 2026 as it advances appraisal and early-stage exploration activities in frontier basins.
