bp’s deepwater GTA LNG development earns dual APM Project Awards
(WO) - bp’s Greater Tortue Ahmeyim (GTA) Phase 1 LNG project offshore Mauritania and Senegal has secured two major honors at the 2025 Association for Project Management (APM) Awards, including Overall Project of the Year and the Engineering, Construction & Infrastructure Project of the Year.
The long-running deepwater development—one of West Africa’s most complex LNG projects—features subsea infrastructure in water depths up to 2,850 m tied back to a floating production, storage and offloading (FPSO) vessel capable of processing around 500 MMscf/d of gas. Once fully online, the project will produce approximately 2.4 million tonnes of LNG annually.
Rahman Rahmanov, bp’s VP for Mauritania & Senegal, accepted the awards on behalf of the project team and emphasized the collaboration behind Phase 1’s delivery. “GTA Phase 1 was an ambitious undertaking on a global scale, made possible by the hard work, resilience and dedication of everyone involved,” he said, thanking both host governments and partner companies.
APM judges highlighted GTA Phase 1 for strong governance, use of industry best practices, and meaningful benefits delivered during execution, including:
- Training 50 apprentice technicians from Mauritania and Senegal
- Working with local fishing communities to design and install an artificial reef
- Reclaiming 120,000 m² of land in Senegal for a caisson fabrication yard that will later expand port capacity
The project marks a milestone for the Mauritania–Senegal LNG corridor, where further phases of GTA and additional offshore gas developments are expected to advance in coming years.
