Chevron to increase natural gas production from Tamar field offshore Israel
(WO) – According to Reuters, Chevron announced it is expanding production at its Tamar natural gas field offshore Israel. Chevron will increase natural gas production to as much as 1.6 Bcfd, up from the 1 Bcfd the Tamar field usually produces.
Jeff Ewing, Managing Director of Chevron's Eastern Mediterranean Business Unit, was quoted saying the production expansion “reflects Chevron's ongoing commitment to partnering with the State of Israel to continue development of its energy resources for the benefit of domestic and regional natural gas markets.”
Tamar’s second development phase involves reinstituting existing compressors at the Ashbod onshore terminal and further invests in a third pipeline than runs between the platform and the producing field. Natural gas produced from Tamar and Leviathan, another near-by producing field, is a “major” source of energy for Israel, Egypt and Jordan, and its operations have been affected during the conflict between Israel and Hamas.
