Oil and gas industry honors Ocean Ranger tragedy on 42nd anniversary

(WO) – On Feb. 15, Energy NL joined members of the oil and gas sector and people across Newfoundland and Labrador in remembering the tragic loss of 84 crew members of the Ocean Ranger, along with their families and friends who carry their memories and their legacy.

The Ocean Ranger semi-submersible drill rig sunk on February 15, 1982, while exploring on the Grand Banks of Newfoundland. All 84 crew members died.

“The tragic loss of the 84 crew members of the Ocean Ranger is a stark reminder of the realities of working in a harsh-weather environment. As we remember those lost, their loved ones, and the tragic events of that February, we as an industry remain focused on the safety of everyone who works in the energy sector, both offshore and onshore, and strive to do better every single day. All 84 individuals of the Ocean Ranger remain in our thoughts today, and every day,” said Charlene Johnson, Energy NL CEO.
