New Zawtika Development to produce 400 Mmcfd of natural gas offshore Myanmar

(WO) — The new Zawtika Development Project, located in the Gulf of Moattama in Myanmar, has entered its fourth phase of construction (referred to as 1D) prior to final commissioning in 2025. At its peak, this development will produce approximately 400 Mmcfgd, equivalent to 4,500 full Olympic-size swimming pools.

This 1D phase consists of 8 new remote extraction wells (from ZWP12 to ZWP19), plus their associated pipelines with two pipeline end manifolds. Sarens, a world leader in heavy lifting, engineered transport and crane rental, was asked by the Vietsovpetro joint venture to assist in the loading of the ZWP12 and ZP15 jackets, of approximately 5,000 tons each, at the port of Vung Tau in Vietnam.

Major storm creates complications for the natural gas project

Typhoon Noru delayed the operation for two days. The storm’s arrival created a major challenge for the project while loading the ZWP12 jacket, weighing in at 4,844 tons and measuring 140.3 m in length.

Even after this setback, the Sarens technical team had to face winds of up to 24 knots and heavy rain. As a part of the load-out operation, Sarens used a set of submersible and deck pumps, along with the barge's internal ballasting system. Doing so allowed Sarens to balance the barge’s level at the quayside.

Sarens has more than 60 years of international experience in the development and installation of strategically important projects. In the energy sector, Sarens has been recently involved in the Clean Fuel Project works in Thailand, in the lifting maneuvers of a 4,500-ton LQUP (Living Quarters and Utilities Platform) at the PTSC M&C plant in Vietnam, in the expansion of the S-Oil plant in Ulsan, South Korea, in the construction of the Petroperu refinery in Talara (Peru), and in the Skikda refinery in Algeria among others.
