Interventek secures Trendsetter well intervention safety valve contract

8/14/2019

ABERDEEN – Subsea well intervention technology specialist, Interventek has been awarded a contract to supply its Open Water Revolution Valves to Trendsetter Engineering in Houston.

The shear-and-seal subsea safety valves will be delivered by early 2020 for integration into Trendsetter’s MkII 15K Light Riser Intervention System. The system is scheduled for its first deployment for a major international oil and gas operator, around March 2020, as part of a subsea well intervention project in Latin America.

Interventek managing director Gavin Cowie, said “Our compact Revolution valves are ideally suited to meet this project’s lightweight system requirements, and to be partnering with such a forward thinking, contemporary solutions provider in Trendsetter is very exciting. Going forward we see clear market growth opportunities for these types of solutions and we hope to build a long-term relationship to help meet this demand.”

“Our solution addresses many of the shortcomings of existing light well intervention and completion workover riser system designs.  The Interventek technology was key to achieving a reduced equipment package size and weight, allowing for a broader range of intervention vessels or vessels of opportunity to be utilised. This allows for a more efficient and cost-effective mobilization, integration and operations model, alongside increased reliability and safety for HPHT intervention operations even at 20,000psi.”

Mike Cargol, vice president at Trendsetter added: “Through the early adoption of Interventek’s cutting edge Revolution valve technology, our newest mechanical well intervention system will challenge the paradigms of existing systems.  Trendsetter has found a like-minded partner in Interventek and together we are proud to bring innovation to intervention.

The Revolution shear-and-seal safety valve includes a number of features, including its unique arrangement of internal components and functionality. This ensures it can quickly shear through any likely obstruction and reliably seal the wellbore using only a single device. Its simplified, compact design reduces the time and cost to manufacture and maintain, and its universal system compatibility means that it is suitable for a variety of subsea intervention or well control solutions.

This is currently the first commercial deployment planned for Interventek’s Open Water Revolution Valves and follows on the back of a successful track record supplying the same core, shear-and-seal technology for in-riser intervention systems.
