Equinor granted drilling permit for well southwest of Marulk field

STAVANGER -- The Norwegian Petroleum Directorate has granted Equinor Energy AS a drilling permit for well 6507/2-5 S cf. Section 15 of the Resource Management Regulations.

Well 6507/2-5 S will be drilled from the West Phoenix drilling facility in position 70 22`43.71´´E and 650 50`44.19``N after completing the drilling of wildcat well 16/1-30 S for Equinor Energy AS in production license 167.

The drilling program for well 6507/2-5 S relates to the drilling of a wildcat well in production license 942. Equinor Energy AS is the operator, with an ownership interest of 40%.

The other licensees are Wellesley Petroleum AS (30%) and Aker BP (30%). The area in this license consists of part of Block 6507/1 and part of Block 6507/2. The well will be drilled about 7 km southwest of Marulk field.

Production license 942 was awarded on March 2, 2018 (APA 2017). This is the first well to be drilled in the license.

The permit is conditional on the operator securing all other permits and consents required by other authorities prior to commencing the drilling activity.
