Cenovus reports fatality at Christina Lake oil sands site

CALGARY -- Cenovus Energy Inc. is deeply saddened to report that there has been a fatality at the company’s Christina Lake oil sands site, which is located about 350 km northeast of Edmonton.

At approximately 10:20 p.m. last night, an incident involving a hauling truck occurred as a drilling rig was being moved at site. The incident resulted in the death of a worker employed by one of Cenovus’s third-party contracting companies.

The name of the worker is not being released publicly at this time. The company extended its deepest sympathies to the worker's family, friends and co-workers.

Cenovus has notified the appropriate authorities and is conducting a full investigation into the cause of the incident.
