EPI takes over Guatemala oilfield
Empresa Petrolera del Istmo (EPI) has assumed control of Guatemala's Rubelsalto oil field from previous operator Perenco Guatemala Ltd. Under EPI's management, the Rubelsalto oil field is expected to produce nearly 900 bpd, or 20% more than before, said EPI general manager Carlos Parra said.
According to data published on Guatemala's Ministry of Energy and Mines website, the Rubelsalto oil field produced just over 267,000 bbl in 2008, after reaching a high of 547,500 bbl in 2005.
Rubelsalto is close to Chisec in Guatemala's northern province of Alta Verapaz. The Ministry of Energy and Mines said it is preparing to launch a new bidding round for oil fields at the end of this month.
