Offshore wind development projects continue to expand
Global data compiled by the Energy Web Atlas, a World Oil sister service, show steady growth in offshore wind development.
Global data compiled by the Energy Web Atlas, a World Oil sister service, show steady growth in offshore wind development. There are now 305 projects of 50-MW size, or greater, that either exist (34%), are under construction(16%) , or are planned (48%). Although the Asia-Pacific region leads in total projects, only 15% are operational, while 60% are still planned. Europe, by far, leads in the proportion of offshore wind projects that are operational (62%). As one of the two accompanying maps shows, France has four major projects planned for sections of the English Channel. And the other map shows that the U.S. has great potential, with 23 projects planned along the Atlantic coast, but most of these have yet to receive regulatory consent.
