Historic analysis and real-time wellsite data improve efficiency

Baker Hughes has released its WellLink Performance Service, which converts complex drilling data into useful information for improved efficiency and economics. The service allows operators to improve drilling economics and quickly identify, investigate and mitigate common performance issues, such as connection procedures, circulating times and tripping speed—inefficiencies that can account for as much as 30% of uptime activity. By identifying these inefficiencies immediately, using historic analysis and real-time wellsite data, invisible lost time can be identified and investigated through charts that compare depth versus days drilled, as well as graphs and reports in real time. Performance indicator alarms and dashboards also are key components associated with the service.

Thermoset resins solve subsea technology challenges

Materia has released Proxima thermoset resins, a new thermoset resin portfolio that provides reliable and economical solutions for technology challenges in subsea thermal insulation, subsea buoyancy and downhole tools. The resins are easy to process, because of their inherently low viscosity and controlled cure profile. The lightweight thermosets are designed for use in syntactic foams in subsea buoyancy applications, and can withstand severe hydrostatic pressures of deepwater and ultra-deepwater environments. Proxima HTI resins provide an effective thermal barrier between HT flowlines and seawater, and Proxima polymers maintain structural integrity in operating environments at water depths greater than 10,000 ft. The insulation technology can be applied safely and efficiently, in the factory or the field.

Services suite reduces cost and deployment time

Boots & Coots Services, a Halliburton business, has developed the Global Rapid Intervention Package (GRIP). This suite of services helps reduce costs and deployment time in the event of subsea well control events. It also provides well planning and well kit capabilities facilitated by the company’s global logistics infrastructure and existing product service lines, which include an inventory of well test packages, coiled tubing units and relief well ranging tools. Additionally, GRIP features a 15,000-psi RapidCap Air-Mobile Capping Stack, which incorporates a specially designed, gate valve-based system that makes it significantly lighter, less expensive and more mobile. GRIP and the RapidCap Air-Mobile Capping Stack will be ready for deployment by the end of 2016.

Compact fittings provide optimized flow performance

A new line of metal face seal and weld fittings has been introduced by Parker Hannifin Corp. Specifically designed for ultra-high purity, semi-conductor applications, the fittings’ compact design allows for system miniaturization and close-coupled spacing. Additionally, permanent heat code markings on wetted components provide full material traceability. They are available as glands, nuts, caps and plugs, in 316, 316L and 316L double-melt stainless steel. The mating gasket and toroid designs provide a high-integrity, metal-to-metal seal for reliable service from vacuum to positive pressure of up to 8,000 psig. The compact, ¼-to-¾-in. fittings also are optimized for orbital welding equipment, and provide service and flow performance equal to larger weld fittings. Photo: Parker Hannifin Corp.

Walker allows rig to operate at lower ground bearing pressures

Entro Industries has introduced the Super Stomper Walker, which permits multiple jack cylinders to operate over a single, large walking foot. This allows the drilling rig to operate at much lower ground bearing pressures than other designs. It also allows the rig to operate over soft ground, while still enabling it to move in any direction, as well as spin in place. It features a full-length walking foot and uses standard, proven mechanical components.

Well integrity system generates vital information

Point System, a well integrity resource, has been launched by Archer. The system combines integrity measurements, expert assessments, and analysis to evaluate barrier performance, and identify the precise location of leaks and flowpaths, without pulling the completion string. Using the system’s seven diagnostic programs and proprietary ultrasound technology, operators can mitigate the risk of costly surprises and generate vital well information. Each program is designed to investigate a range of failure types, from the surface or downhole, ultimately minimizing required resources and cost.

Derrick-style coiled tubing truck eliminates crane usage

Kerui Petroleum’s R&D Center for Oil and Gas Stimulation Equipment has introduced its derrick-style coiled tubing truck. With a pre-installed derrick, there is no need to use a crane to hoist the injection head. This saves up to 70% of preparation time, compared with conventional coiled tubing units. The main truck consists of five modules, including chassis; hydraulic power system; oil tube; roller; and coil tubing reel. The derrick truck consists of derrick, injection head, BOP system and power unit, as well as an independent hydraulic power system that allows seamless connection with customers’ existing coiled tubing units. Additionally, the injection head and BOP can now be controlled remotely at a distance of 30 m, which increases the safety level of the operation. Photo: Kerui Petroleum.
