Fully integrated, ultra-deepwater completion and production system

Baker Hughes’ Hammerhead system is the industry’s first, fully integrated wellhead-to-reservoir ultra-deepwater completion and production system. Developed to withstand extreme environments, such as the Gulf of Mexico’s Lower Tertiary trend, the Hammerhead system is designed for reliable long-term, high-rate production. The system includes an upper completion, a lower completion, an isolation assembly and intelligent production capabilities, and is fully compatible with subsea boosting. Designed and tested for well depths to 33,000 ft, and water depths to 10,000 ft, the system is capable of reliable operations during well life cycles of more than 20 years, at temperatures up to 300⁰F and pressures up to 25,000 psi.

Subsea wet gas meter for early detection of water breakthrough

Emerson Process Management’s Roxar subsea wet gas meter enables accurate production measurement, thereby reducing risk, and improving flow assurance in gas and gas condensate fields. The meter generates an uncertainty specification of ±0.02% abs WVF (water volume fraction) at GVF (gas void fraction) of 99%-100%. The new meter includes the industry’s first dedicated online salinity measurement system that indicates whether formation water is entering the flow. Combined with highly sensitive and accurate water measurement, this feature provides early detection of formation water breakthrough and the optimization of injection rates for MEG, scale and corrosion inhibitors.

Fluids and cuttings separator improves fluid recovery, reduces waste

M-I SWACO, a Schlumberger company, has introduced the Screen Pulse fluid and cuttings separator. Easily installed onto new or existing shale shakers, the fully pneumatic system delivers drilling fluid recovery of up to 30 bpd and an average drill cuttings waste reduction of 20%. The separator can operate up to four shakers simultaneously. A carbon-fiber pan is fitted with an air valve mechanism that provides a pulsing air supply, pulling drilling fluid from the cuttings.

High-speed MWD/LWD electromagnetic telemetry system

Enteq Upstream’s new Twin Electro-Magnetic Telemetry System serves as a high-speed addition to mud pulse telemetry for transmitting drilling data. The system enables the use of mud pulse and EM telemetry concurrently, giving quicker EM data transmission, while offering full redundancy. The system encodes downhole MWD data into low-frequency EM waves, and the signal is transmitted from the tool through the formation and detected on the surface. According to Enteq, the Twin system works deeper and faster, and is more power-efficient than previous EM systems.

Offshore mobile lab enables onsite reservoir tracer analysis

Tracerco has invested in new mobile, reservoir tracer analysis laboratories for use onsite in offshore projects. The labs will give customers rapid sample analysis turnaround, producing results almost immediately, as opposed to the weeks that it often takes when samples have to be sent offsite for analysis. The labs contain identical analytical equipment as is used in shore-based facilities, allowing multiple tracer analysis, with no compromise on tracer selectivity and sensitivity. Onsite analysis offshore will provide more immediate insight on real-time fluid flow, enabling informed decisions on strategies, such as well changes or well interventions to help boost productivity.

Seismicity monitoring network for life of the asset

MicroSeismic’s AlertArray real-time seismicity network is capable of providing high-resolution locations for various event types and magnitudes to establish a baseline for naturally occurring seismicity, prior to injection activities. The AlertArray system can be augmented with recording stations to evaluate the performance of hydraulic fracturing completions, while maintaining the ability to effectively pinpoint the safety of subsurface treatment activities in real time and through the life of the asset. This is a hybrid network, utilizing a BuriedArray system, combined with seismometers, to provide detection, location and magnitude recovery; and is capable of spanning more than 10,000 mi2.

Metal-to-metal expandable liner hanger for deepwater reliability

The VersaFlex XtremeGrip system extends Halliburton’s liner hanger portfolio with a high-performance, expandable liner hanger that provides a compliant metal-to-metal seal, with a fully bonded resilient elastomeric seal. With enhanced bi-directional anchoring capabilities, the system is designed to hang liner and seal off in temperatures up to 400°F for oil and gas wells, and up to 575°F for geothermal wells. The system’s ability to rotate and reciprocate during cementing helps improve cementing results and reduces the need for costly remediation.
