AAPG at a glance

The 2013 AAPG Annual Conference & Exhibition will take place May 19–22 at the David L. Lawrence Convention Center, 1000 Fort Duquesne Blvd., Pittsburgh, Pa. Details about technical sessions are at https://www.aapg.org/pittsburgh2013/technicalprogram.cfm. The conference will feature more than 900 oral and poster presentations, covering 11 themes.

Sunday, May 19. The conference begins on Sunday afternoon at 4 p.m., with an opening session and an awards ceremony, followed by an icebreaker reception.

Monday, May 20. The morning oral sessions will include topics such as: advances in correlation methods and architectural analysis of clastic reservoirs, carbonate diagenesis, basin analysis, and sedimentation and tectonics. The afternoon oral session will cover topics such as: shale plays of the Americas, evaluating environmental impacts from shale gas development, and exploration in salt and deepwater structural systems. The Michel T. Halbouty speaker will be Range Resources President and CEO Jeff Ventura, who will discuss Range’s discovery and commercialization of the Marcellus shale.

Tuesday, May 21. The morning oral sessions will include topics such as: the Bakken petroleum system, modern carbonates, and water risks and mitigation strategies in unconventional development. There will be several SEPM research symposiums. The afternoon oral session will cover the Eagle Ford petroleum system and impact of faulting, fracturing, and stress in shale and tight reservoirs. The Energy Policy Forum will discuss the demand side of natural gas prices, and the afternoon’s Special Session will cover Hurricane Sandy. The SEPM President’s Reception and Awards
Ceremony will be from 7–9 p.m.

Wednesday, May 22. The morning oral sessions will include topics such as: evaluation of European shales, advances in carbon capture storage, and dynamics of porosity, permeability, and basin evolution. The afternoon oral session will cover worldwide unconventional reservoirs, fault analysis and fault controlled traps, and shale plays of China.

Themed luncheons. There will be several themed luncheons during the conference, including the all-convention luncheon on Monday, SEPM luncheons and DPA/Prowess on Tuesday, and the EMD and DEG luncheons on Wednesday. wo-box_blue.gif
