Jerrold “Jerry” Alan Greenberg passed away unexpectedly at his home in Katy, Texas, on Nov. 5, 2012. Greenberg graduated from the University of Houston with a BA degree in English (1973) and Journalism (1978). He worked for over 30 years in the oil and gas industry as an editor, marketing and public relations manager, corporate communications director and, most recently, as a freelance writer and consultant. He began his career working at Houston Natural Gas, followed by the Better Business Bureau, Offshore Data Services, Western Oceanic and Noble Drilling. Over the last 10-plus years, Greenberg worked for multiple national and international oil and gas industry trade publications, including World Oil.


Prospectiuni has appointed Andrew Clark to the newly created position of president. Effective immediately, Clark will be responsible for managing the company’s day-to-day business activity and will assume some of the responsibilities of present CEO Gehrig Schultz. Promoted from the position of COO, Clark has more than 30 years of experience in the geophysical industry.


BP has replaced its regional president for its operations in Azerbaijan, Georgia and Turkey. Gordon Birrell, the company’s current head of safety and operational risk, will replace Rashid Javanshir. Javanshir, who had run BP’s operations in the three countries since 2009, will return to London to work as a senior V.P. for strategy and integration.


BP has appointed Lamar McKay as Chief Executive, Upstream. He will take up the position with effect from Jan. 1, 2013. In his new role, McKay will lead BP’s combined Upstream business, comprising the Exploration, Developments and Production divisions, together with the Upstream strategy and integration team. McKay, who will be based in London, will report to Bob Dudley and is already a member of BP’s executive management team. He is currently chairman and president of BP America—a role he has held since early 2009—serving as BP’s chief representative in the United States and also overseeing BP’s Gulf Coast restoration work.


DONG Energy has appointed two new executive V.P.s in the business areas of Wind Power and Energy Markets. Samuel Leupold has been appointed executive V.P. of Wind Power. He takes over from Henrik Poulsen, who is now CEO of DONG Energy. Leupold has previously been executive V.P. at Swiss energy company BKW FMB Energie. In addition, Morten Hultberg Buchgreitz has been appointed executive V.P. of Energy Markets. Previously, he was senior V.P. of Group Treasury & Risk Management in DONG Energy.


Itron Inc. has named Philip Mezey as president and CEO as of Jan. 1. He will succeed LeRoy Nosbaum, who is retiring. Mezey became president and COO of Itron’s energy unit in 2011. He started working for the company in 2003 upon Itron’s acquisition of Silicon Energy.


Aquatic Engineering & Construction Ltd, an Acteon company, has appointed Bill Smart as business development manager, North America. Prior to joining Aquatic, Smart served as the V.P. of sales and service for Prime Source Packaging. He has held engineering and project management positions with Oceaneering Intervention Engineering, Oil States, Unigraphics Solutions and Global Compression Services.


Marathon Oil Corporation Chairman, President and CEO Clarence P. Cazalot, Jr. has been elected Chairman of the American Petroleum Institute’s (API) Board of Directors for a one-year term. Cazalot succeeds Chevron President and CEO John S. Watson. Cazalot joined Marathon Oil in 2000, following his service as V.P. of Texaco Inc. and president of Texaco’s Worldwide Production Operations. He began his career in the oil and natural gas industry with Texaco in 1972.


Marathon Oil Corporation’s board of directors has elected Sylvia J. Kerrigan as executive V.P., general counsel and secretary, and Lance W. Robertson as V.P., Eagle Ford Production Operations. Previously, Kerrigan served as V.P., general counsel and secretary, and Robertson held the title of regional V.P., South Texas/Eagle Ford. Kerrigan joined Marathon Oil in 1995 and was named V.P. and general counsel in September 2009. Robertson joined Marathon Oil in October 2011. Since then, he has been responsible for all of the company’s operations in the Eagle Ford shale.


Charlie Hardy, the former executive V.P. of Superior Energy Services Marine Division, has retired. This coincides with the sale of Superior’s Liftboat Fleet to Seacor LB Holdings. Under Hardy’s leadership, the fleet maintained its reputation as an industry leader and was guided safely through several Hurricanes, especially Katrina and Rita in 2005. This Marine Division also experienced extremely low turnover of its 400+ employees during his tenure.


Bureau Veritas has restructured its marine and offshore activities, and made a number of new key appointments. The moves follow the retirement of Bernard Anne from his position as executive V.P. and managing director of the Marine Division. The marine and offshore activities have been merged into one Marine & Offshore division, with a global network divided into four key areas. Philippe Donche-Gay has been appointed executive V.P. in charge of the Marine & Offshore Division, addressing both industry segments. Since he joined Bureau Veritas in 2008, Donche-Gay has been executive V.P. in charge of the Industry & Facilities Division. He started his career with IBM, holding various management positions in France and in the U.S.


Allen M. Katz has joined Transocean Ltd as interim senior V.P. and general counsel through June 30, 2013.  Subject to mutual agreement, Katz’s employment with Transocean can be extended through December 31, 2013. He has served as an advisor to the company since June 2010.


Global shipping, logistics and marine services provider GAC Group has named Bengt Ekstrand as its new group president. Ekstrand will take over in January 2013 from Lars Säfverström, who has held the position since July 1998. Ekstrand is currently the group V.P. of GAC’s Asia-Pacific region and was previously the head of the Middle East region.


INOVA Geophysical Equipment Ltd. has named Glenn Hauer president and CEO. From the company’s inception, Hauer has served on the executive team and led INOVA’s R&D efforts as its senior V.P. of product management.


Lamprell announced that Frank Nelson has been appointed interim CFO and will join the senior management team. Nelson has over 25 years of experience in the construction and energy sectors. He joins Lamprell from construction and house-building group Galliford Try, where he served as finance director.


R. Keith Michel, chairman of the board of the Herbert Engineering Group of companies, has been appointed president of Webb Institute, a leading school of naval architecture and marine engineering, effective July 1, 2013. The appointment was made following the recently announced retirement of RADM Robert C. Olsen, Jr. USCG (Ret.), who will have filled this role for eight years. Webb also announced that Michel will step down as chairman of the board and will be replaced by George Campbell, Jr.
