Combination magnet/jet tool for BOPs
The Strong Swift Boy combination magnet and jetting tool from Bilco Tools is the newest member of the Tough Boy cleanout tool product family, which includes casing scrapers and brush tools, magnet tools, jetting tools, circulating tools, waste retrievers, filter baskets, swivel tools and flow check subs. The Strong Swift Boy combines the cleaning power of high-pressure fluid jets with one of the most powerful magnet tools in the industry. When run in conjunction with the Clean Boy filter basket or Big Boy waste retriever, the combination provides superior wellbore cleaning and debris removal. The jet tool removes caked-on debris and the magnet captures ferrous metallic debris, including metal shot used when drilling hard formations, while the waste retriever or filter basket captures non-magnetic debris and solids. The Big Boy riser waste retriever has a carrying capacity of 14 gal (2.2 ft3), the highest in the industry, and is used in lower marine riser systems and BOPs.
Online management training Oilennium Ltd. has expanded its range of learning management system (LMS) online training modules, and has made them available for individual purchase. The range of courses has been expanded to include three main classifications: essential knowledge, health and safety, and technical courses. This allows any company to provide training in new skills to long-term employees, and an introduction to new employees who are transferring from another discipline. When users access the LMS, it instantly connects them to interactive exercises and animations designed to immediately capture their attention so that they remain engaged in the new material. The LMS monitors participant comprehension through a series of interactive review checks, and feeds back the results to the company. Each study module is fully trackable. Modules can be uploaded as files compliant with sharable content object reference model (SCORM), the body of standards and specifications used by the web-based e-learning global community. The system records user progress as they work their way through the program. When participants successfully complete a module, they will have gained a solid grasp of the subject matter. Users can fit their studies around their work schedules.
Progressing-cavity pump
Moyno Inc. offers the Moyno 2000 Progressing Cavity Pump with a gear joint that allows it to handle a wide range of applications from shear-sensitive chemicals to difficult-to-process slurries and sludges. The pump features a crowned-gear universal joint drive train configuration to provide exceptional torque and thrust control. Joint seals effectively protect the gear joints from pumpage contamination. The gear joints are grease-lubricated to run at 180°F, far cooler than oil-lubricated joints. The rear gear joint location in the Moyno 2000 pump reduces the radial load on the drive shaft and bearings and requires minimal pump disassembly to service. The Moyno 2000 pump line offers capacities of 2–2,500 gal/min. (0.5–568 m3/hr) and pressure capabilities to 1,000 psi (69 bar).
Online shale well data More than 146,000 Pennsylvania wells, including those in the Marcellus Formation, have been added to P2 Energy Solutions’ Tobin All Access Online SuperBase as part of an ongoing shale data resource. The new Pennsylvania well data is being further refined and upgraded using interactively calculated well coordinates cross-checked with existing historical coordinates. The new data enhances existing Tobin survey land grids to provide a comprehensive single data source for the Marcellus Shale play. The company has also added surface ownership for Wilson County, Texas, which is part of the recently discovered Eagle Ford Formation. The product will be available in the newly released Tobin All Access portal, which provides 24-hour, seven-day access to the digital data set. The Tobin SuperBase is a suite of digitally mapped data products composed of high-resolution vector (point, line and polygon) data with supporting relational attributes that can be used in any GIS, CAD or SIS system. Updated daily as new data becomes available, it covers the continental United States, Alaska and offshore. Tobin All Access offers customers the option of licensing existing Tobin data in their areas of interest rather than continually purchasing the data on a county-by-county basis.
Safe oilfield biocide
Cudd Energy Services and Bio-Cide International have produced a new fracturing additive registered by the EPA as an oilfield biocide. Petro-Flo is a safer, more effective biocide for use in slick-water fracturing operations. It is safer to handle than other biocides such as sodium hypochlorite (bleach), glutaraldehyde and quaternary ammonium compounds. Petro-Flo does not combine with organics to form carcinogens or other harmful decomposition byproducts—it degrades into simple table salt. The additive kills a wide range of microorganisms, including sulfate-reducing, acid-producing and slime-forming bacteria. It also effectively penetrates and breaks down biofilm from within and prevents the formation of new biofilm.
