Oil and gas design company Red Spider Technology has appointed Mike Salter as chairman. He has over 30 years of experience in the industry, for the last 12 years as COO of Aberdeen-based Abbot Group plc. Becky Byrd has been named VP, Corporate Marketing, for National Oilwell Varco. She joined National Oilwell in 2002 as marketing coordinator, and served most recently as director of corporate marketing following the Varco merger in 2005. Fulbright & Jaworski L.L.P. has named London partner David J. Howell as co-head of the firm’s International Arbitration and Alternative Dispute Resolution Practice Group. Also, Chris Warren-Smith, an international disputes lawyer, has joined the law firm as head the International Financial Services Disputes practice. Fulbright partner Randel Young, with over 25 years of experience in emerging markets, energy projects and transactional work, has relocated to Dubai. Fulbright & Jaworski L.L.P. has named London partner David J. Howell as co-head of the firm’s International Arbitration and Alternative Dispute Resolution Practice Group. Also, Chris Warren-Smith, an international disputes lawyer, has joined the law firm as head the International Financial Services Disputes practice. Fulbright partner Randel Young, with over 25 years of experience in emerging markets, energy projects and transactional work, has relocated to Dubai. Another energy transaction lawyer, Richard Devine, recently joined Fulbright from Denton Wilde Sapte as a senior associate in the Dubai office. In Saudi Arabia, Mohammed Al-Ghamdi, a Saudi National with extensive litigation and commercial transactions experience, has joined the firm as senior counsel. Also joining in Riyadh as senior counsel is Richard Tyner, who has spent the past two decades in the region doing corporate, labor and litigation work. Finally, Andrew Hart is joining Fulbright’s London office as part of the global energy projects team.

Aberdeen-based Dominion Gas, a supplier of industrial gases to the offshore industry, appointed Maurice McBride as chairman, Bryan Park as finance director and Wendy Lee as regional manager of Southeast Asia. McBride has over 30 years of service operations experience in the UK and internationally. Park is a former group finance director for Octavian International Ltd with over 15 years of finance experience. Lee has been working in the Asian region based out of Singapore for the last 10 years in both technical and business development roles.

The US Department of the Interior’s Minerals Management Service (MMS) appointed Jon Hrobsky as a new deputy director. Hrobsky comes to MMS from the Secretary of the Interior’s Office of Congressional and Legislative Affairs, where he served as the deputy director.

Offshore Marine Services (OMS) appointed Steve Taylor as director of operations of their Dubai business unit. The creation of this new position follows the recent establishment of the company’s operations in Dubai.

Mark Reese has been named president of National Oilwell Varco’s (NOV) Rig Solutions group. He joined the company in 1981, and served most recently as president of NOV’s Expendable Products group. Jeremy Thigpen was named president of Downhole and Pumping Solutions for NOV, which includes the Downhole, Mission and Mono operations. He was previously president of the Downhole Tools Group. Robert Workman was named president of the Distribution Services Group for NOV. He has served in a range of leadership positions including manager of International Services, general manager of National Oilwell de Venezuela, VP of Operations, and president of the Distribution Services Group. Kirk Shelton has been named president of NOV’s Mission/Mono Products. He has served as VP of Sales and Operations for Mission Expendable and Multiplex Pump businesses since 2000.

GGS-Spectrum, a global provider of advanced seismic data processing and multi-client surveys, appointed Knut Oversjoen to CEO. He has previously worked in Norway as executive VP for Finance and M&A at Umoe ASA, as CEO at Kverneland ASA and as CFO at Petroleum Geo Services ASA and Hafslund ASA.

Bert McDaniel has joined MXROS, Inc., of Fort Worth as project and customer service manager for mobile equipment. He has over 30 years of industry experience, including district engineer for an independent operator, VP of energy lending for banks in Fort Worth, San Antonio and Houston, and most recently as project manager for Comprobe, Inc.

World Oil additions

World Oil has announced the addition of two new editors to the staff. Engineering editor Mark H. Tran will focus on procuring, editing and writing articles on drilling, completion and reservoir characterization. He earned a BS in physics from Baylor University and a JD from the South Texas College of Law. Tran worked three years with the Rock Physics Group of Exxon Production Research Co. Most recently, he worked for Smith International in its Applications Development Section as a DBOS (Drill Bit Optimization System) Engineer.

Katrina Schulz joins the staff as technical editor. Schulz earned a BS degree in geological sciences from The University of Texas at Austin. She has worked as an assistant geoscientist at Weston Solutions, a geotechnical and environmental engineering firm. In her new role, she will procure, edit and write technical articles and help coordinate statistical content for the annual and midyear drilling forecasts.
