Personnel changes and promotions in the petroleum industry

Frank King, board member of Republic Energy in Dallas, was elected chairman of the board of the Texas Alliance of Energy Producers at its 76th annual meeting. Other officers elected were Mark Metzler, Felderhoff Production Co., Gainesville; Thomas Taylor, Penntex Energy, LP, Abilene; and Marshall Tillman, Kornye-Tillman Co., Fort Worth. King joined Republic Energy Inc. in 1987 as senior VP of exploration, and later served as president and chairman.

Julio Eduardo Dutra Ribeiro, a specialist in offshore, subsea and structural engineering, was named general manager of Brazilian operations for 2H Offshore Projetos, an Acteon company. He worked 26 years at Petrobras, and then as an installation engineer on the Barracuda/ Caratinga project in Brazil’s Campos basin. Ribeiro earned the 2005 Petrobras Inventor’s Award for his patent of an articulated support for large-diameter risers on ultra-deep-water platforms. Additionally, Simon Luffrum is returning as director to 2H’s headquarters outside London, and Peter Simpsonwas named technical manager at the Rio de Janeiro office.

Aspen Aerogels, the Massachusetts-based developer of aerogel nanotechnologies, has appointed Randy Seehausen as industry manager, offshore oil. He will be based in Houston, Texas. Seehausen has over 25 years of experience in upstream oil and gas development, and has held positions with McDermott, Dril-Quip, Kvaerner Oilfield Systems and ABB Vetco Gray.

Energy analysts Douglas-Westwood Ltd launched an Aberdeen office in the City’s west end, and appointed Andrew Reid as a new director. He has over a decade of experience in the energy sector, in the oil service industry, investment banking, fundamentals research, and mergers and acquisitions.

Construction Specialists Ltd. (CSL) appointed Rodrigo Rendon to its management team. CSL’s core business is to serve the global oil and gas industry in the delivery of subsea developments and operations support through a project’s lifecycle. Previously, Rendon worked for Accenture, providing strategic consultancy to major oil and gas companies.

Thomas E. Ferguson was elected president of the Hydraulic Institute for 2006 – 2007, and will also serve as a member of the board of directors. Ferguson is a VP of Flowserve Corp. and president of Flowserve Pumps. He has more than 24 years of experience in the flow control industry, including more than 15 years with Flowserve and BW/IP International.

Acteon named Tom Fulton as president of its operating company, InterMoor, Fulton joined the company in 1992 and has served in various management positions, and previously was VP of engineering and projects. He will manage InterMoor’s operations in Amelia and Fourchon, La.

John D. Oil and Gas Co. elected Gregory J. Osborneas the company’s new president and COO. He has served as a director since February 2006. Before joining the company in 2003, Osborne was president of Great Plains Exploration LLC, an oil and gas exploration company based in Mentor, Ohio.

Marathon Oil Corp. elected Michael K. Stewart as VP, Accounting, and controller. Since July 2005, Stewart has served as Marathon’s controller, responsible for various accounting functions including those related to international and domestic business units, subsidiaries and joint ventures.

Oceaneering International announced that company president T. Jay Collins will succeed the retiring John R. Huff as CEO. Collins was appointed president of Oceaneering in 1998, and will retain this title in his position as CEO. He started his oilfield career in 1969 with Shell Oil Co., and joined Oceaneering in 1993.

Dr. Eric J. Barron, dean of the College of Earth and Mineral Sciences at Pennsylvania State University, has been named new dean of the Jackson School of Geosciences at The University of Texas at Austin. Barron is a distinguished professor at Penn State who chaired several national research boards. In 2002, the Jackson school received the largest gift ever made to a US public university, a bequest of $232 million from the late John A. Jackson. As a result, the university made the school a separate academic unit at the level of a college.

Valero Energy Corp. promoted two of its executives to senior officers of the corporation. Kim Bowers, VP Legal Services, was promoted to senior VP and general counsel. Bowers joined Valero in 1997 as managing counsel. Jay Browning, VP and corporate secretary, has been promoted to senior VP and corporate secretary. Browning joined Valero in 1993, heading up the Corporate Law department.

Tor Haugland has been appointed senior VP, Marine Acquisition, Veritas Geophysical Corp., where he will guide the global strategic direction of this business segment for the organization. Haugland joined Veritas in 2000. Previously, he held a number of senior management roles in other leading seismic companies, and holds several patents for seismic acquisition technologies.
